Let's Talk About Airbnb Design. Find out all you need to know about converting your existing property, or a new investment project into a profitable airbnb haven.
What Is Airbnb?
Airbnb was founded by Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia who, after moving to San Francisco, USA in October 2007, the roommates decided to put an air mattress in their living room and turn it into a profitable bed and breakfast.
Airbnb, formerly known as 'Air bed and breakfast', now boast over 7 million holiday rentals and 2 million guests in over 220 countries around the world. So, the question is, in such a saturated marketplace, how can you ensure your airbnb stands out from the crowd?

Airbnb Case Study
We’re revisiting a project we worked on with Amii Interiors, a design firm founded by Carla and Eloise based in Devon.
The Project Is Walreddon Barn. Eloise was tasked with transforming this charming modern barn in Tavistock into an Airbnb destination.
Creating the ideal Airbnb design involves designing a comfortable space that feels like home. Art is a great way to add value and character to your property by encompassing modern design with sustainable materials and quality craftsmanship.
We worked with Eloise to provide art recommendations, and the finished results are truly spectacular. The property bring a blend of mid-century and industrial chic to create a spectacular space to relax and explore the heritage of West Devon and beyond.
We hope you enjoyed learning more about our project. So, what can you do to improve your airbnb? Read on for more of our expert tips on selecting art and elevating your space for guests.

1. Comfortable and Cosy: Guests want to feel at home, so focus on adding modern, stylish wall art and comfortable furnishings like plush sofas, soft rugs, and cozy bedding. Going the extra mile and adding personal touches like throw pillows and blankets can enhance the cosiness year-round, particularly during the rainy, colder seasons, and will leave your guests feeling extra special.
2. Functional Layout: Make sure the layout of the space is practical and flows well. Consider how guests will move through the space and arrange furniture accordingly. Got extra space? Why not add a small reading nook by choosing a comfortable chair, small bookshelf and a framed modern artwork to bring colour and light into the space.
3. Local Flavour: Incorporate elements of the local culture or surroundings into the design. This could mean art inspired by the local area, traditional stone, textiles, or even a themed decor that reflects the area's heritage.

4. Efficient Use of Space: Airbnb properties often have limited square footage, so maximising space is key. Use multi-functional furniture, such as a sofa bed or a dining table that can also double up as a workspace. With the rise of employee benefits including work-from-anywhere days, your airbnb guests might not just be staying for leisure.
5. It's All In The Detail: Pay attention to the finer details that can make a big difference in a guest's experience, such as high-quality linens, thoughtful amenities like coffee and tea, and stylish yet functional lighting.
6. Durability: Choose durable materials and furnishings that can withstand frequent use and are easy to clean. This will help keep maintenance costs down and ensure your space stays looking great for guests.
7. Embrace Technology: Incorporate tech-friendly amenities like smart locks, high-speed Wi-Fi, and charging stations for devices to cater to the needs of modern travellers.
8. Outdoor Spaces: If your property has outdoor space, such as a balcony or patio, make it inviting with comfortable seating, plants, and perhaps some outdoor lighting for evening ambiance.
9. Safety and Security: Ensure that your Airbnb is equipped with safety features such as smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits. Consider installing security cameras or alarm systems for added peace of mind.
10. Flexibility for Different Guests: Keep your design flexible to accommodate different types of guests, whether they're families with children, couples on a romantic getaway, or solo travellers looking for a peaceful retreat.
