Deep black and earthy brown tones meet expressive brushwork in this timeless, understated abstract composition. Doing The Right Thing Isn't Free - 300x170cm brings together expressive brushwork and layered marks in a landscape that feels layered without becoming overworked. The composition uses changing density and tonal contrast to suggest depth, light and the rhythm of the landscape. This gives the original painting a refined contemporary finish, with colour and composition carrying the visual impact.
The composition recalls the layered colours, changing light and quiet rhythm of the natural landscape, translated through black, brown and blue tones and a restrained set of supporting tones. Colour is used to create atmosphere as much as contrast. The secondary colours are used sparingly, adding depth and contrast while allowing the main palette to remain clearly defined. Together, the elements create a distinctive contemporary artwork with a composed, gallery-like presence.
