Nestled in the Surrey hills in magnificent private grounds, the De Vere Horsley Estate was was designed in 1820 by Sir Charles Barry, the architect for the Houses Of Parliament. We were delighted to work on this project for The Brasserie at De Vere. 

Today, it's a remarkable hotel and business retreat - but, what does it really take to design and create a selection of artwork for the restaurant of a luxury castle 1 hour away from London? Here's a little behind-the-scenes.

Site Visit



As with every project, communication was key to understanding the client's requirements. There were requirements for bespoke artwork to fit in line with the heritage hotel's aesthetic and brand colours. 



Our team got to work curating a bespoke artwork selection and frame recommendations for the project, which we shared with our client.



We conducted a site visit mid-renovation and our team manufactured the art in our studio.


We then delivered the artwork by the required date for hanging.

Making An Impression. What Is Impressionist Art

We all want to choose a statement piece that really has the wow factor. There's something special about guests stopping to admire a really beautiful piece within your home, and seeing the effect it has on each person. A truly great piece causes even those who don't consider themselves art-lovers to stop for a moment, and that's what makes them a great addition to any home decor scheme. What is impressionism? Impressionism refers to the impressionist art movement that was started back in the 19th century. The emphasis in impressionist works is not upon a photorealistic representation of a scene, but rather on capturing the light and atmosphere. Impressionist artists work to create pieces that feel like a glimpse of the subject, rather than a detailed study. This is achieved through short brushstrokes in interesting and vibrant colour palettes. Amongst the great impressionist painters are often thought to be Claude Monet (who of course painted the famous waterlilies), Edgar Degas, Paul Cezanne and Edouard Manet. If you are interested in incorporating impressionist art into your home, it's a great idea to look up the work of these renowned artists to get your bearings. Think about placement Whilst it might be tempting to think first about your home and where a piece might fit in, and the accompanying colour scheme that might be best reflected, with impressionism it is usually better to first find a work of art that stirs you. For example, a calming impressionist landscape will work beautifully hung upon a clean white wall, where the painting feels almost like a window out to the most beautiful land imaginable. Once you've found the impressionist works that you are most drawn to, it's good to visualise the placement of the prints or paintings in your home. This is, of course, dependent on the size and shape of the work. A large wall art piece will work well at the end of a room, as it draws the eye across and somehow has the effect of elongating the room to make it feel larger. Smaller impressionist prints in frames will work better in a smaller space to add interest and create a unique look that reflects your tastes as the homeowner. Will impressionism work in my home? The beauty of impressionism is that impressionist artwork can fit easily into any interior design scheme. For a more minimalist home, black and white art might be worked perfectly into decor ideas, and there are plenty of impressionist pieces in monochrome that will fit the bill. For home inspiration in a more traditional setting, bright bursts of impressionist colour in the perfect frame can really finish a more luxurious room. Whatever your taste, impressionist art is sure to freshen up your home renovation or interior design revamp.

How to Choose Art for Your Home Office (That Actually Helps You Work Better)

Working from home has transformed the home office from an occasional convenience into a daily environment. And daily environments shape us. Most home offices are designed backwards. People think about the desk, the chair, the monitor — and then, if space remains, they add a print and call it done. What research tells us is that the art on the walls of a workspace is not peripheral. It is functional. What the research shows A study by Dr Craig Knight at the University of Exeter found that employees in enriched spaces — those with art and plants — were 15% more productive than those working in lean, undecorated environments. A separate study published in the British Journal of Psychology found that blue environments enhance creative output, while red environments improve accuracy and attention to detail. Art in a workspace does several things simultaneously. It provides visual rest — a place for the eye to stop and reset during periods of sustained screen focus. It signals that the space has been considered, which produces a subtle effect on how seriously the person working in it takes their work. And the right piece of art, in the right colour, can tilt the room's atmosphere in the direction you need it to go. Choosing by the nature of your work If your work is primarily analytical — finance, law, administration, detailed writing — cool, quieter palettes work in your favour. Soft greys, pale blues, clean neutrals. Scale and placement In a home office, resist the instinct to go small. A single, generous piece — 60 to 100cm wide — will anchor the space and give it the visual confidence it needs. Small work in a small room tends to feel apologetic rather than decorative. Position artwork at or just above eye level when seated. If your desk faces a wall, the art on that wall becomes your view — choose accordingly. If your desk is angled away from walls, a single strong piece behind you serves double duty: backdrop and anchor for video calls. A note on originals A home office is an excellent space for an original painting. The intimacy of the room means you will spend more time with the work than in almost any other space.
