Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today, Omar. Let’s start with the basics—can you tell us a bit about your background and how you became an artist?
Omar Obaid: Thank you for having me! My passion for art started at a very young age. Growing up, I was always drawn to colour, form, and the process of creating. My love for painting was something that felt innate. Over time, I realised that art was more than just a hobby or passion—it was my way of communicating and connecting with people.
Interviewer: Your work is known for its vibrant colours and abstract style. What inspires your creative process?
Omar Obaid: Life itself is my biggest inspiration—whether it’s nature, music, or even the emotions of a particular day. I find beauty in the chaos of life, and my abstract work reflects that. The movement of colours and textures allows me to explore emotions in ways words cannot. I’m also deeply inspired by the interaction between art and the viewer. Abstract art is subjective, and I love hearing how others interpret my work—it often surprises me! In a good way.
Interviewer: How would you describe your artistic style to someone who hasn’t seen your work before?
Omar Obaid: I’d say my style is contemporary abstract with a focus on bold colours and expressive movement. My pieces are layered, textured, and dynamic, designed to evoke emotion and spark imagination. I aim to create pieces that draw you in and encourage you to find your own meaning within them.
Interviewer: Could you share your process for creating a new piece?
Omar Obaid: Absolutely! My process starts with an idea or emotion I want to explore. I’ll often sketch out rough compositions, but the real magic happens on the canvas. I work mostly with acrylics because they allow for quick layering and experimentation. I’ll build textures using palette knives, brushes, and even unconventional tools. I rarely stick to a strict plan—the process is very fluid and intuitive. Some days, a painting evolves exactly as I envision it; other times, it takes on a life of its own.
Interviewer: Do you have a favorite piece you’ve created?
Omar Obaid: That’s a tough question! Each piece is like a chapter in my story, so it’s hard to pick just one. However, there’s a piece called "Into The Unknown" that holds a special place in my heart. It represents a period of significant personal growth, and the feedback I’ve received on it has been incredible.
Interviewer: As a successful artist, what do you think is the key to thriving in today’s art world?
Omar Obaid: I think the key is authenticity. Stay true to your voice as an artist and create work that resonates with you. The art world can be challenging and competitive, but if you focus on your passion and connect with your audience, it makes all the difference. Also, don’t underestimate the power of adaptability—leveraging social media and online platforms has been a game-changer for me in reaching collectors worldwide.
Interviewer: Speaking of collectors, your work is in private collections globally. How does that feel?
Omar Obaid: It’s incredibly humbling. Knowing that my art is part of someone’s home or space, bringing them joy or inspiration, is the ultimate reward. It’s a privilege to be able to connect with people across cultures and continents through art.
Interviewer: What’s next for you? Are there any upcoming projects you’d like to share?
Omar Obaid: I’m always working on new collections, so there’s plenty in the pipeline! I’m currently exploring larger-scale works and experimenting with new materials. I’m also collaborating on a project that combines art and interior design—something I’ve been passionate about for a while. Stay tuned!
Interviewer: Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring artists?
Omar Obaid: Believe in yourself and your vision. It’s easy to get discouraged, especially when starting out, but persistence is key. Surround yourself with supportive people, seek feedback, and never stop learning. Most importantly, enjoy the journey—it’s a beautiful one.
Interviewer: Thank you so much, Omar, for sharing your insights and experiences with us. It’s been a pleasure.
Omar Obaid: Thank you! It’s been wonderful to chat.
